Position Overview
This is largely a personnel type role.
In short, recruit, get to know, and look after our volunteers.
The Volunteer Recruitment and Support Manager is responsible for recruiting, training, and developing our volunteers, as well as dealing with volunteer governance issues and being a first point of contact when volunteers have questions or need support.
This role will ensure that volunteers are actively engaged, and their efforts aligned with the charity’s mission and objectives. The role involves close liaison as part of the Core Team to identify the charity’s volunteer needs and fill roles effectively. A major part of the role is to encourage volunteer involvement in all aspects of running the charity, as well as things such as fundraising events, and the more operational tasks such as sourcing, sorting and loading the trucks.
This position requires excellent communication and people skills, a proactive approach to solving challenges, a desire to be fully engaged, and a passion for the work of Hope and Aid Direct.
Key responsibilities
Recruitment and Onboarding:
Develop and implement volunteer recruitment plans to attract suitable volunteers able to work in the right locations, as and when needed.
Maintain accurate volunteer records, including applications, background (DBS) checks, and training documentation.
Program Development:
Close liaison with the Volunteer Liaison and Coordination Manager.
Collaborate with volunteers to identify volunteering opportunities and develop new volunteer roles.
Create and update volunteer job descriptions to match organisational needs.
Communication and Outreach:
Utilise social media, newsletters, and other communication channels to promote volunteer opportunities and highlight achievements.
Organise appreciation events and recognition programs to acknowledge the contributions of volunteers.
Volunteer Welfare:
Serve as the primary volunteer welfare point of contact for all volunteers, responding to enquiries and providing information as needed.
Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise with volunteers.
Qualifications
Experience:
Similar experience in a management or related role.
Any experience in HR recruitment or training, would be useful.
Experience with event planning and community outreach is a plus.
Skills:
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Personability.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Technically adept and able to use standard office-based software
Must be comfortable working remotely taking on challenges and bring them together as part of a team
Strong challenge-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Mobility
Although this position is remote, the ability to drive to locations where HaAD is working, participate and support volunteers would be an advantage. We have supporters nationwide, and drop-off collection points around England, but our operational activity is largely based in Essex where our trucks are kept, and our warehouse activity is centred.
Working Conditions
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends as may be needed, to accommodate volunteer activities and events.
Some travel may be required to attend meetings, events, and operational activities
